RV Solar Power Archives
For those that enjoy traveling, and have the luxury of a Recreational Vehicle, solar power can be a benefit for you also. This can be very beneficial when you are camped in a location without electrical hookups. RVer’s know the headache of getting into the low battery power situation. With solar power, that can be a thing of the past.
No longer will you have to plan you stops only where there is an RV park or campsite. You can vacation virtually anywhere there is enough available sunlight. About 5 hours of sunshine per day should provide you with all of the electrical energy you will need.
Mobile solar kits come with everything you will need to outfit your RV. The most popular, and least expensive (depending on the kit) mounting option, is on the roof of your vehicle. There are newer mounting options that are both easy for the do-it-your-selfer, and don’t require the RV to be modified extensively, which could reduce the value when it comes time to sell. When installed properly, the solar panels are secure and supported well, and there is also no need to worry about leaks in the roof of your RV.
There are both fixed, flat mounts and also flat, tiltable installation options. The tilting mounts provide for increased sun capture, especially in the winter months when the sun is lower in the sky. This can also be beneficial late in the day when the sun is setting.
Portable pole mounted systems are available that are erected when the vehicle is stopped. This does introduce more work in order to get the solar system usable however, and when it’s about vacation and fun, why make more work for yourself ? Of course if you want a system that can be moved around and used in other settings, this could be ideal for you. Good examples could be setting up a very remote campsite or providing electrical power to a remote hunting or fishing cabin.
With the many great solar power products now available, clean, renewable electrical power can be provided at home, on the road, or virtually any place else where you can receive direct sunlight.
If you’re on a budget, or just enjoy saving money (a lot in this case), you can always build your own solar panels, and even wind turbines. Go to this link location for more information on homemade solar panels and wind turbines.
