About Amorphous Solar Power Amorphous solar panels are created by spraying silicon on to glass in very thin layers, and are commonly known as thin film solar panels. This process allows them to be better at generating electricity in all lighting conditions, including cloudy or shady environments. They have a maximum operating temperature range of -40 to 176-degrees Fahrenheit, require virtually no maintenance, and are also effective on cloudy days.
Solar cells convert sunlight into an electric current; they do not actually store power. The Sunforce 50012 1.8-Watt Solar Battery Maintainer is designed to maintain an existing battery charge, and not to fully recharge a battery. It can remain connected to a vehicle battery at all times and will not adversely affect its operation or electrical components. i bought this charger for my wooden boat which has an automatic bilge pump. what can i say... it's still floating and the battery has a full charge. that little blinking LED light is very reassuring. it is obviously not an all-weather unit but, with a little care, still very serviceable. i would be willing to replace it annually for the peace of mind it provides.

Item works well enough but the plastic shell warps quickly, although it still works. Would recommend it being made from a sturdier plastic.

I have a lightweight battery installed in my car for racing, I found this to be perfect to use to keep that battery charged while its fans are running to cool the car when off the track.

I bought the item to help keep the battery on our camper maintained during a long camping week. We typically could only make it 2 1/2 days on a battery before we needed to recharge with the solar maintainer we made it a little over 3 days. It helped but doesn't bring the battery to full charge after a days use. A 5 watt would probalby work better for us.
